C. A. MCGINNIS

Claude Albert “C.A.” McGinnis, age 84, of Old NC 150 Hwy, passed away Friday, March 8, 2019 at his residence.  He was born November 2, 1934 in Lincoln County to the late Sumey and Dare Rhyne McGinnis. He spent his early years in Cherryville and graduated from Cherryville High School in 1953.  C.A. was a veteran of the United States Army. He served for two years at Fort Hood, TX, and then moved to Charlotte, NC.  C.A. retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 39 years, in 1993 and moved to Crouse, NC.  He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  He loved to travel, and he and Jo-Anne visited all 50 states.  He was a fan of NASCAR racing and collected ball caps, of which he had over 3,000.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers; Lester, John, Ernest, and Calvin McGinnis; six sisters, Inez Cloninger, Mae Jenkins, Ada Greene, Florene Beam, Betty Jean Hastings, and Bessie Bowman.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 65 years, Jo-Anne Carpenter McGinnis; sons, Claude A. McGinnis, Jr. (Linda), and Donald McGinnis; twin daughters, Kay Billington (Mark) and Fay Costner (Ray); seven grandchildren, Clint McGinnis, Tiffany Long (Andy), Kayanne Mullis, Clayton Mullis, Cole Mullis, Catilin Bailes (Curtis), and Kayla Etheredge (Cason); seven great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special granddog, Dallas.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Lincoln County, especially Cassandra Christian, Allison Neal, Earlyenne Bartley, and Brad Dunn.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Sunday March 10, 2019 at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services with Pastor Rick Sloop officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

A graveside service, with Military honors, will be held at 11 AM Monday March 11, 2019 at Forest Lawn Lincolnton Pastor Rick Sloop officiating.
