Chatman Loyd Sellers, 104, of Kings Mountain, NC passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018. Chatman, born March 30, 1914, was the son of the late Charles (Charlie) Clayton and Mary Ella Sellers. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Gladys Bess Sellers and by his siblings Ruth Hoyle, Edna Craft, Earl Sellers and Walter Sellers.
Great pride and dedication by Chatman was evident in everything he did, whether it be farming, working at the Cherryville Union, at the Kings Mountain Margrace Fabric Mill, making mortar for several brickmasons, or growing vegetables for family and selling to the community. Growing flowers was another pleasure because he enjoyed sharing the beauty with neighbors. As a lifelong member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, he continued this pride and dedication by serving as a deacon, youth department worker and attended Sunday school with perfect attendance for fifty-two years. Pride and dedication was also evident in his love for his wife of seventy-three years, for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Nell Greer and her husband, Joe of Dameron, Maryland; son, Glenn Chatman Sellers and his wife Janice of Martinsville, Virginia. Also surviving are granddaughter, Carolyn Mashburn and her husband, David of Christiansburg, VA and grandson, Commander Charles Lloyd (Chuck) Sellers and his wife, Chandra of Chesapeake, VA. Great-grandchildren are William and Wesley Mashburn, Caroline, Chatman, Carson and Cohen Sellers. His surviving siblings are Margie Bess, Mary Jackson, J.L. Sellers and Herbert Sellers.
Thanks is expressed to Gaston Hospice Nurse, Mary West and Chaplain Anita Harvin. To special friends, Brenda Roseman, Jeff McLeymore , Darryl McLeymore, Scott Harrill and Kristy Boone we also say a big thank you.
