Charles Homesley

Charles Durant Homesley, age 78 of South Dixie St. passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at his residence. He was born September 9, 1939 in Gaston County to the late Walter H. Homesley and Goldie E. McNeely. Charles was a member of Missionary Methodist Church. He retired from truck driving with Cardinal Freight Carriers. Charles was a veteran of the United States Navy. He enjoyed NASCAR and baseball and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He loved his trucking career and always enjoyed going out for a ride with his wife, family, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a baby sister and a brother, Walter Hugh "Moby" Homesley, Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Penelope Eaker Homesley; son, Charles David Homesley, Sr. and wife, Verline of Anderson, SC; daughter, Penny McGarth (Jim) of Yorktown, VA; step-son, Jonathan Eaker and wife, Johanna of Tampa, FL; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and best friends, Carl Osment and Louie Ted Tallant.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 8, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Missionary Methodist Church with Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiating. Burial will follow at Black Family Section of City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services.
