Carolyn Player

Carolyn Yvonne Player, age 87 of Cherryville passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte.  She was born August 11, 1934 in Darlington County, South Carolina to the late Robert Lawson Player and Margaret Leon George.  Carolyn was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cherryville.  Her love of children kept her teaching for 30 years.  She was a former officer in the Eastern Star and a member of the Moose Lodge.  Carolyn was a volunteer in the Knitting Club of Kings Mountain Patrick Center.  She was very talented in Art, Embroidery, Knitting, Crocheting, Flowers, and Crafts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, JoAnna Player; brothers, Robert Player and Steven Player; and sister, Barbara Player.

Survivors include her children, Robert Sneed, Connie Hastings (Dewey), Sheri Sneed (Steve), Debbie Rascati (Mike), and Suzanne Dillard (Alan); grandchildren, Carl Hastings (Cindy), Crystal Hastings (Michael), Allison Clark (Clint); great grandchildren, Trent Hastings, Camryn Hastings, Lauren Hastings, Caitlyn Ledford, Hayden Clark; half-sisters, Nadene Fontano, and Linda Hillenbrand; godchildren, Pate Craig, Hannah Myers, Phoenix Willis; and special mentions, Betty Henson, Lillian McDaniels, Wanda Boyles, Bill Tinsley, and Tommy Haselden.

The family will receive friends Friday, February 4, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Zack Christy officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Carolyn was an advocate for St. Jude’s Cancer Research, Veterans, Animal Rescue, and Gaston County Emergency Medical Services.
