Carl Leatherman

Carl Leatherman, age 89, of Cherryville, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Peak Resources in Cherryville. He was born April 23, 1934, in Lincoln County to the late Richard Lee Leatherman and Junie Elizabeth Conner Leatherman. Carl had a love for family, growing fruits and vegetables of any sort, picking on those he loved and was a commanding presence with great leadership skills. He loved to reminisce and tell stories of his youth and assisted with the Cherryville High School marching band for each of his children and many years beyond. Carl was known for providing for the needs of his wife, children, parents and those in the community for whom he saw a need. He was fiercely protective, loyal, devoted and a hard worker, owning and operating his own business for many decades. His family is forever grateful for the things he taught them and the example he set. 

In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Hight, Betty Sue Avery, and Mary Leatherman.

Survivors include his loving wife, of 57 years, Ann Taylor Leatherman; daughters, Leslie Leatherman Moss (Bill), and Lisa Stroup (David); son, Carl Leatherman, Jr.; grandchildren, Taylor Carpenter Weems, Grayson Moss, and Austin Moss; great grandchild, Hudson Weems; sister, Martha Duncan; and his beloved cat, Molly.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, October 30, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lincolnton with Rev. Carol Ann Hoard officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:00 until 12:45 PM at the church. Interment will be private.
