Bill Steene

William Charles “Bill” Steene, age 85, of Cherryville, passed peacefully Friday, April 28, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born March 23, 1938 in Syracuse, NY to the late Robert and Clarabelle Howard Steene.

Bill retired in 1993 after nearly 40 years of service from IBM as an engineer. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Cherryville where he enjoyed being a part of the Care Team. Bill was an avid ham radio operator N4UO and loved restoring old knives and lighters.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara and Marilyn.

Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Gerita Martin Steene; sons, Robert Steene of Texas, and Mike Steene of Oregon; daughters, Robin Costner (Frankie), Nicole Blaylock (Mike); son, Martin Messer (Lisa); brother, Karl Steene (Bonnie); grandchildren, Tyler Blaylock, and Hunter Costner; multiple nieces and nephews; and special lifelong friends, Art and Shirley Zimmer from New York.

Inurnment services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, May 4, 2023 at The First Presbyterian Church Columbarium with Rev. Dr. Bill Lowe officiating.

Friends are invited to visit the family at 501 Oak Grove Drive, Cherryville, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian of Cherryville church fund.
