Betty Wooten

October 18, 1931 — January 29, 2016

Betty Johnson Wooten, 84, of Old Fallston Rd., died January 29, 2016 at her residence. She was born in Gaston County on October 18, 1931 to the late Fonza R. and Vergie Benfield Johnson.

Betty was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church, Cherryville, where she diligently sent prayer cards to the shut-ins every week. She read her Bible daily, was always at church when the doors opened, and strived to have perfect attendance. Betty was also set her in her ways and found good in everyone. Mrs. Wooten was a retired merchandiser from J. C. Penny at Eastridge Mall.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two great grandchildren; sister, Laureen Whitner; and brother, Norvin Johnson.

Survivor include her children, Greg Wooten (Christine) of Augusta, GA , Thurman Wooten, Jr (Cathy) of Cherryville, Steven Wooten of Georgia, Gail Louise Hammack of Cherryville, Donna Wooten of Flint, MI, and Sharon Pierce of Redford, MI; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and a sister, Geraldine Ghorley of Gastonia.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Second Baptist Church at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jerry Lail officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Carpenter's Funeral and Cremation Services and at other times at the home of Mike and Crystal Hammack, 1236 Baxter Rd., Cherryville, NC.
