Betty Hoyle Powell, age 85 of the North Brook Community passed away Friday, October 27, 2017 at Carolinas Healthcare System Lincoln. She was born April 12, 1932 in Lincoln County to the late Arthur Raymond and Lilly Blanche Wehunt Hoyle. Betty was a member of Bess Chapel United Methodist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher, church treasurer, and involved with the United Methodist Women's Society. She was a devout Christian and an excellent homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and canning and entered and won numerous recipe contests. She was a talented seamstress and made clothes and drapery for her family and community. Betty also enjoyed reading and was a former 4-H Leader. She was devoted to her family and always made sure their needs were met before her own.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Ruth Hoyle, Paul Hoyle, Flo Kistler, Ray Hoyle Jr., Edna Hicks, Inez Williamson, Edwin "Toy" Hoyle, and Joann Husband.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Damon Weldon Powell; children, Michele Tallent and husband, Perry and Mark Powell and wife, Cindy; grandchildren, Lesley Crawford, Ben Powell, Lily Tallent, and Heather Chapman and husband, Dustin; great grandchildren, Zion Crawford, Lynsi Crawford, and Jordan Chapman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 30, 2017 at 4:00 PM at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Taylor and Rev. Randi Godfrey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services and at other times at the home.
