Bertha Lillian Grigg Lackey, age 94, formerly of Stoney Point Rd in Shelby, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Peak Resources in Cherryville. She was born on July 22, 1919 in Cleveland County to the late Frank and Emma Hinson Grigg. Bertha was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church. She had retired from McGinnis Clothing Store in Kings Mountain. After retirement, Bertha worked part-time with Cleveland County Schools receiving the President's Volunteer Service Award from the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn Hugh Lackey; son, Wilburn Dwight Lackey; and siblings, Ambrose, Andrew, Monroe, Gaston, Presley, Lawrence, and Toye Grigg, Ocie Gordon, Daisy Cabiness, and Mary MacMurray.
Survivors include her grandson, W. Andy Lackey of Dumfries, VA; granddaughter, Kim Anthony of Catawba; great-grandchildren, Jessica Sain of North Brook, Heather Anthony of Bessemer City, Blair Anthony of Shelby, and Kasey Arrowood of Bessemer City; four great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Buffalo Baptist Church with Rev. Max Turner Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:00 to 12:45 PM prior to the service at the church.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all the staff at Peak Resources for the love and care given to Mrs. Lackey.
