Benjamin Stephen Homesley, 96, of 966 Mary's Grove Rd., died Dec. 23, 2017 at Carolina Health Care-Cleveland. He was born November 25, 1921 in Cleveland County to the late John and Betty Mullen Homesley. Ben was a retired long line truck driver for L.J. Kennedy of Jacksonville, FL and formerly employed at Carolina Freight, and Mercury Motor Express. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and telling war stories. He also thoroughly enjoyed eating his wife of 69 years cooking. He proudly served his country during World War II in the US Army
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Troy and George Homesley, Velda Homesley, and Fay Egnor.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Helton Homesley; sons, Stephen Homesley of Cherryville, and Gary Homesley of Jacksonville, FL; daughters, Janet Homesley Ridaught of Jacksonville, FL , Betty Homesley Johnson (Joseph) of Jacksonville and Lori Homesley Archibald (Mark) of Cherryville; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; brothers, Ray Homesley of Cherryville, Wade Homesley of Alexandria, VA and Jeffery Paul Homesley of Gastonia and a sister, Helen Hilliard of Raleigh.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday December 29, 2017 at 4:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Leonard Bumgardner officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home from 2:30 to 3:45 PM and at other times at the home.
