Angelita H. Foster, age 88, residing at Brian Center Gastonia, passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 6:16pm at Caromont Hospital Gastonia. She was born March 6, 1933 to Charles Carr and Florence Irene Kiser Harrelson. She is preceded in death by her husband George Foster and daughter Melody Danette Foster Trakas.
Sydney says my mom loved climbing trees and playing in the woods as a child. She loved the mountains, and our family spent a lot of time at my grandparents’ house in Bat Cave, NC. She adored animals, often watching the birds at her backyard feeders and doting on her cats Orangie and Gray.
She was a keen gardener and grew vegetables and beautiful flowers. Every summer she made pickles from cucumbers in her garden. She also loved cooking and baked wonderful pound cakes.
Mom loved playing checkers and won often. She and dad line- danced for years, and she was an avid walker – regularly walking a track in Gastonia during her lunch break. For years, she worked at a polling location during voting time.
My parents traveled to Hawaii, to Alaska to visit us, and also regularly took bus trips traveling around the east coast.
Mom loved her family very much and asked about everyone, especially her two grandsons, Charles Manning Trakas and Michael David Jenkins, up until our last FaceTime call on Thursday, September 2. She was always concerned with their wellbeing and the wellbeing of her church family. Her church and spiritual wellbeing were very important to her. She read her Bible often, marking meaningful passages with papers and pen.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Sydney Jenkins and her husband Stan Jenkins of Chapel Hill, grandsons Charles Trakas of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Michael Jenkins of Winter Garden, Florida.
A private burial will be held at Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery at 570 Concord Church Road, Bessemer City, NC 28016.
Condolences may be made to www.carpenterporter.com or to Sydney Jenkins, PO Box 2097, Chapel Hill, NC 27515-2097.
